From August 2024, we will be rolling out 67% recycled plastic triggers across all our 700ml spray bottles.
Another exciting step for us in reducing our impact, we fundamentally believe it is not about one massive change, but small adjustments which add up to make a big difference. In 2014, we were one of the first manufacturers to introduce mono-material (one-material) triggers. Removing the metal spring and using an innovative vacuum pump made entirely of the same material allowed for recycling within the current UK recycling infrastructure, which doesn't currently accept mixed-material triggers.
This latest switch to semi-recycled triggers represents a further 40% reduction in carbon emissions per product and we couldn’t be prouder of our progress.
To help you understand how much recycled content is present in the products you buy, we're developed this percentage score, which is included on all our labels. This mark helps keep you informed, and keeps us accountable.
Often the issue with using recycled plastic is that there’s a reduction in the material’s strength. This is the main reason our triggers aren’t 100% recycled yet. We’re hoping the technology will get there soon but in the meantime, we’re happy to report that our NEW triggers are strong enough for 20,000 compressions.
That means you can refill and reuse, over and over and over again!
It took our founder, Mark Jankovich, over 6 years to create the infrastructure to exclusively use British post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) for our product bottles, and we were the 1st company in our industry to do so. This process reduces carbon emissions by 61% when compared with virgin plastic. And, by using only local waste, we're reducing our impact even further by avoiding transport emissions from importing overseas plastic waste.
Whilst we really encourage you to reuse your spray bottle and refill using our concentrated refill ranges, the type of plastic we use (HPDE - High Density Polyethylene - mainly British milk bottles) is also much more likely to accepted by recycling centres. In fact, HPDE forms part of only 9% of plastic commonly recycled worldwide.
We endeavour to close the loop on our business operations where ever we can, and our delivery packaging is no exception. We were the first to introduce a 100% FSC-certified recycled packaging solution, including the box liner (most box liners are made using virgin materials).
